Taxonomy

Paratype, Singapore. The male holotype and female paratype of Rhodoneura flavidiscalis Hampson, 1914:110 from Singapore are in NHM (Mi7330), NHM slides #13317 & #8441. Comb. n. (Whalley,1976:183, & figs. ) nec syn. Rhodoneura cyclothyris Hampson, 1914:111. Auct. (Whalley,1976:183).

Description

27mm. An orange-brown species with dense dark strigiform markings and a narrow black marginal line. The paratype (illustrated) has a series of prominent angular yellowish spots on the FW. There is fairly extreme sexual dimorphism, the males being brightly coloured, with a more reddish Un thorax and they have thick expansible hair pencils on their hind tibiae. However the yellow markings are variable and may be less distinct in some specimens such as that illustrated by RTS (pl. 21, fig. 15) and the specimen from GTE, (Plate 7, Fig. 216a) which has virtually no yellow patches. Whalley (1976) noted that the correctness of the association of males and females needed confirmation by field observations.

Sumatra, W. Malaysia (GTE), Singapore. Lowland and hill forest and disturbed areas; <600m.
