Taxonomy
Figured specimen is from India, Himanchal Pradesh, Simla [Shimla]. The holotype of Glanycus insolitus Walker, [1857] 1855:634 is from Bangladesh (Sylhet).
Description
35-40mm.
This is a striking bluish-black and red species. There is a large fenestra on the HW and a smaller one on the FW. Although very similar to G. coendersi, G.insolitus has a dorsal red streak on the abdomen and the HW has submarginal spots (RTS:125). No specimens seen from Borneo.
Distribution & Habitat
The distribution of both this species and G.coendersi needs to be reassessed as they have been confused in the past. Ades & Kendrick (2004) give Brunei but this may be erroneous.
Yunnan, Sichuan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Bangladesh, Thailand, Singapore. Lowland.
Life History & Pest Status
Larvae recorded on leaves of Liquidambar formosana (Hamamelidaceae). See RTS:125; HOSTS [Accessed Nov. 2008].
