Description
Wing length: 10-11mm. The orange FW has a sub marginal and a narrow, post median, white fasciae. The HW is typical of Eristena, deeply falcate, with a very broad white central band on orange. The sp. is sexually dimorphic. The FW of the females are extensively suffused with dark black-brown whereas the in the males this is limited to the borders of the white markings. Wing coupling with a single frenulum (male), or three frenular bristles (female), subcostal hamus (male) and erect bristles on the underside on Cu2.
Mey (2009) describes this as a large sp. which is differentiated from E. monika Mey, 2009 by several features; the black-brown suffusions of the female FW, no eye-spots on the HW, no secondarily derived scales and fringes in the males. The stalk of the HW veins M2 and M3 is much shorter. The male genitalia illustrated by Mey (2009: 100, figs. 5-9) are also distinctive. -
