Telchines henrici  Snellen, 1889;  Plate 9;  not Borneo

Taxonomy

N.Sumatra, Dairi. The male holotype of Azazia henrici Snellen, 1889:2; pl. 1. fig. 2, labelled as from Sumatra, but the type locality published as 'Java' is in Leiden as is the NHM genitalia slide #13741. Comb. n. to Telchines, Whalley (1976:81).

Description

48mm. A very large, robust moth with rich red-orange wings with red reticulation and venation. There is usually a small orbicular stigma but it may be indistinct. The transverse FW line curves away from the apical angle. Whalley (1976) noted the prominent white spots on the fore tibiae (as in T. vialis) and he considered that it might be a subspecies of T. vialis as it occurred in the same localities in Sumatra. T.vialis & T. henrici are very similar red-orange species and usually have orbicular stigmas of greyish scales, but this character may be indistinct. There are also differences in the orientations of HW supplementary line (see above). Sonagara strigipennis is very similar but it has an additional distinct line across the FW termen.

Distribution & Habitat
