  • Taxonomy


    The female holotype of Glyphodes eurytusalis Walker, 1859c: 503 from Sarawak is in the UM Oxford. Comb. n. to Agrioglypta (Shaffer et al., 1966);

    Syn. Glyphodes opalalis Hampson, 1891: 135, pl. 155 fig 20. is from India (Nilgiri).

    syn. Margaronia episcopalis Meyrick, 1938a: 80. TL Java syn. n. (Shaffer et al., 1966).

    Sutrisno (2005a) showed that Agrioglypta Meyrick 1932: 244 is a monophyletic genus with A. eurytusalis located as the basal sp. and then followed by A. excelsalis.

  • Description


    Wing length : 16mm. A magnificent species with brown and ochreous markings on a silvery white back ground and irridescent purplish areas which are easily lost. The HW is extremely large and 'square'. There is little difference between the sexes. The male has short black scales on the valves and eversible long black hair pencils. The female has a brown tip to the abdomen.

    Sri Lanka, India (Tamilnadu, Himal Pradesh, Kerala), W. Malaysia, Singapore, Sabah, Brunei, Sarawak, Kalimantan Timur, Sumatra, Java, Selayer, Sulawesi. Australia (W, NT, Q, NSW). Japan, Taiwan. Lowland & lower montane primary forest (including canopy); <1400m.
