-
Taxonomy
Eschata sp. 1. An unnamed worn specimen from Sarawak (Gng. Mulu N.P.) in the NHM.
-
Description
Wing length: 17.5mm. Apparently thinly scaled. The dull fawn colour of the veins is representative of the worn specimens encountered but it is probable that unworn specimens will be covered in silvery white scales. Eschata Walker, 1856: 133 is an Oriental genus characterized by reduced chaetosemata, presence of ocelli, wing neuration similar to that in Chilo, a strong pars basalis and often numerous cornuti ; externally the species of Eschata are very distinct, with a shining white FW with two distinct transverse fasciaes. The labial palps are shorter than in most crambines (Bleszynski,1970a). There are several unnamed Eschata spp. in SE Asia.
